Aim:
The aim of this course is to prepare the student for further studies in industrial economics. The importance of having a comprehensive picture of an industrial enterprise is emphasised. During the course the student will learn how to analyse economic information, what type of decisions usually are taken within an industrial enterprise and how analysis of economic information can support such decisions.

Prerequisites:
General competence.

Course organization:
The course is based on theoretical lectures as well as exercises and cases studies. The industrial enterprise is studied from three perspectives: the flow of production, the flow of information and the flow of capital. To give the course a flavour of reality guest lecturers from trade and industry will be invited.

Course content:
Swedish industry and its tradition is presented during the introductory part of the course. The student will get familiar with some companies, groups of companies and some spheres within the Swedish society. This part is followed by a study of the industrial enterprise from the above mentioned three perspectives: The flow of production: how to control production and flow of materials from order to delivery. The behaviour of costs, full costs and contribution analysis as well as investment theories are basic concepts in this part of the course. The flow of information; the internal and external information systems of a company will be dealt with, both from the internal and external stakeholder
