Mål:
The aims of the course are: - to introduce the elements of a satellite communicationsystem - to consider each of the elements in greater detail - to evaluate the link budgets - to understand the ways in which a satellite communication system may be used for th transmission of information - to consider the methods for access to a satellite communication system

Kursinnehåll:
1. Outline of a Satellite Communication System - The space segment - The ground segment - Satellite orbits - Types of service - TT&C, telemetry, tracking and command - Future prospects 2. Link Analysis - Link budgets, the uplink and the downlink - Antenna gain, radiation pattern ande footprint - Multiple bearn systems - Noise and absorption 3. Information Transmission - Signals (telephone, TV, data) bandwidth and modulation - TDMA, FDMA and CDMA, Time Division Multiple Access. Frequency Division, Multiple Access and Code Division Multiple Access - Access assignment and random access - Availability, utilisation and propagation delay 4. The Satellite - Single and multiple beam systems - Transparent and regencrative systems - On board processing - Intersatellite links 5. The Ground Station - Station organisation - Review of international standards - Antenna types, radiation patterns and tracking - Communication and network interface systems - Mobile and hand held transmitter-receivers 6. The Space Environment - Vacuum, solar radiation, high energy particles and space craft charging - Reliability, redundancy and system life time
