TSTE90 | System Design, ECTS-points /SYSTEMKONSTRUKTION/ Advancement level: C
Aim: The course include methods and tools for design and implementation of electronic systems using VLSI/ULSI technologies. The design methods aim at reducing the design time and guarantee correct designs as well as ensuring that the performance requirements are met. Of main concern is the design of hard real-time systems with stringent requirements on low power consumption, high throughput and short response time.Course organization: The course consist of a series of lectures, exercises and laboratory work and a large design project.Course content: Design of complex systems, project organisation, planing, and documentation. Problem capture, specification, system design, complexity, partitioning, and validation. Use of CAD-CAE tools. Behavioral description using VHDL. Hard real-time systems computational properties of algorithms, scheduling methods, resource assignment and allocation, and synthesis of matching architecture. Automatic synthesis of logic and implementation using VLSI technologies. Manufacturing aspects. Fast prototyping using FPGA.Course literature: Wanhannar L:Compendium in System Design Mentor Graphics Manuals.
