Aim: The purpose is to give basic knowledge in analysis and design of analog and discrete-time integrated circuits, mainly integrated in CMOS technology, that primarily are intended to be used in analog as well as digital systems for signal processing. Furthermore the intention is to give understandings for the importance and the need of CAD: different computer-aided analysis and synthesis methods and design of circuit layout.Prerequisites: TSDT71 Circuit Theory and TSTE83 (or TSTE 15) Analog circuits.Course organization: The course is organized in lectures, lessons, group exercises, and laboratory work. Course content: Introduction to CMOS technology. Components or circuit elements such as: capacitors, switches, current sources, current mirrors, inverters, comparators, and operational amplifiers implemented in CMOS technology. Tools for synthesis and analysis. Analog integrated circuits. Differential circuits. Integrated active RC filters. SC (Switched-Capacitor) circuit theory: The z-transform. Bilinear transformation and LDI transformation from the s-plane to the z-plane. Charge analysis. Representation in time and frequency domains of linear systems. Transfer function, frequency response, impulse response. Computer-aided methods for analysis and synthesis, both in time and frequency domains. Orientation about delta-sigma converters with noise shaping. SC circuits: Clocking. Elimination of the influence from parasitic elements. Basic building blocks, operational amplifiers, inverting and non-inverting integrators, sample & hold circuits, D/A and A/D converters, filters. Group exercises: Computer-aided synthesis and analysis of operational amplifiers and SC filters, design of circuit layout for operational amplifier. Laboratory work: Measurement on different circuits, analog filters, sample & hold circuits, SC filters and an A/D converter.
