Aim:
The course gives an introduction to applied thermodynamics. One purpose is to increase the understanding and interest of applied thermodynamics. Another purpose is to demonstrate the need for mathematical tools in the analysis of energy problems.

Prerequisites:
Analysis, Algebra, Physics (thermodynamics) and Mechanics.

Supplementary courses:
Applied fluid mechanics and heat transfer, Aerodynamics, Oil hydraulics, Energy systems.

Course content:
Applied thermodynamics and industrial applications Summary of basic thermodynamics. The first law of thermodynamics and the second law of thermodynamics. Properties of different substances. Important thermodynamic cycles. Steam power plant, gas turbines, compressors, refrigeration units, heat pumps, air conditioning equipments. Fluid mechanics Compressible flow in nozzles.
