TMMV30 | Applied Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, ECTS-points /TILLÄMPAD STRÖMNINGSLÄRA OCH VÄRMEÖVERFÖRING/ Advancement level: C
Aim: The course gives an knowledge of engineering fluid mechanics and heat transfer. One purpose is to increase the understanding and interest of engineering fluid mechanics and heat transfer. Another purpose is to demonstrate the need for mathematical tools in the analysis of energy problems.Prerequisites: Applied fluid mechanics and heat transfer, Applied thermodynamics and heat transfer, Fluid mechanics and heat transfer.Supplementary courses: Oil hydraulics, Energy systems.Course organization: The course is divided in four parts Fluid mechanics Convective heat and mass transfer Heat conduction ProjectCourse content: Fluid mechanics Introduction. Turbulent flow. Potential flow. Laminar and turbulent boundary layers. Recirculating flow. Jets Convective heat transfer and mass transfer Equations and dimensional analysis. Free and forced convection, at laminar and turbulent flow. Numerical and analytical methods for heat transfer problems. Heat conduction Equation, initial and boundary conditions. Numerical and analytical methods for heat conduction problems, especially the finite element method, FEM. Project Project. An industrial application is analysed and the problem is solved. Written and oral presentation of the result.Course literature: Publications from Applied thermodynamics and heat transfer, LiTH, and from Thermo and fluid dynamics, CTH, Göteborg.
