Aim:
The intention with this course is to give the students basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and applied thermodynamics.

Prerequisites:
Analysis, Algebra, Physics and Mechanics.

Supplementary courses:
Applied fluid mechanics and heat transfer, Oil hydraulics, and Energy systems.

The course is divided in four parts Fluid mechanics Applied thermodynamics Heat transfer Industrial applications

Course content:
Fluid mechanics Introduction. Basic equations. Bernoulli equation with applications. Dimensional analysis. Force on a body in a moving fluid. Laminar and turbulent flow. Pipe flow. Compressible flow in nozzles. Boundary layer. Recirculating flow. Applied thermodynamics Summary of basic thermodynamics. The first law of thermodynamics and the second law of thermodynamics. Properties of different substances. Important thermodynamic cycles. Heat transfer Heat conduction, free and forced convection, and radiation. Over-all heat transfer. Numerical and analytical methods for heat transfer problems. Heat exchangers. Industrial applications Steam power plant, gas turbines, compressors, refrigeration units, heat pumps, air conditioning equipments.
