Aim: Part 1 aims at giving the necessary knowledge to understand and to a certain extent treat electrical issues, stimulating creativeness in design thinking. The contents of the course is inclined towards problems in mechanical engineering. Part 2 aims at giving knowledge about the design and use of electrical power equipment used in mechanical engineering, including rules, regulations and standards in the area.Course content: Part 1 Electrical circuits: DC circuit analysis: Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's laws. Thevenin's and Norton's theorems. Superposition. Node-voltage and mesh-current analysis. Joule's theorem. Sinusoidal steady-state analysis, phasor methods, complex method. Passive filters. Power, power factor. Magnetic circuits, Hopkinson's and Ampére's theorems. Force. Measurement of current, voltage, power and resistance. Measuring errors. Bridge measurements, measurement of non-electrical quantities. Sensors. Analog electronics, the diode and the zener diode. Rectification and voltage stabilization. Bipolar transistors and field effect transistors Amplifier circuits, operational amplifiers. dB. Number systems, codes. Boolean algebra, combinatorial networks. Karnaugh diagrams. Sequential circuits. Programmable logic circuits, multiplexers, demultiplexers and decoders. A/D and D/A converters. The microcomputer. Optoelectronics, the LED, photodetectors, optical couplers, displays, optical fibers. Part 2 Three-phase systems for distribution of electrical power. Earthing, protective devices. The power transformer, DC and AC machines. Control of electrical machines. Industrial installations, power, illumination. Wiring diagrams, auxiliary power, running and maintenance.
