TMKT06 Machine Elements, ECTS-points
/MASKINELEMENT/

Advancement level:
C

Aim:
This course gives a general description of design, function and use of machine elements. It emphasizes the ability to analysis them by building theoretical models where previous knowledge in applied mechanics and mathematics can be used.

Prerequisites:
Mathematics, mechanics and solid mechanics

Course organization:
The course is organised in two parts. The basic content is given in lectures and during supervised exercises the students are trained to understand the function of various machines and their components and analyse their behaviour. In a laboratory exercise the practical build up of some elements is demonstrated.

Course content:
Part 1: Fastening elements ( bolts, rivets, springs, shaft connections...) and tribology ( theory of hydrodynamic lubrication, rolling element bearings, seals, plain bearings..) Part 2: Transmission elements ( gears, couplings, brakes, belt drives, epicyclic gears...)

Course literature:
Part 1: Mart Mägi, Göran Gerbert: Kompendium i Maskinelement, del A. Övningsexempel i Maskinelement, del 1 SKF kullagerkatalog Part 2: Gerbert, G.: Kompendium i Maskinelement, del B Övningsexempel i Maskinelement, del 2
