TMHL51 Strength of Materials, ECTS-points
/HÅLLFASTHETSLÄRA Ie/

Advancement level:
C

Aim:
The course gives the student a basic knowledge of the problem issues an methods in strength of materials and solid mechanics. The aim is to achieve an understanding of phenomena and problem solving methods in strength of materials, which the industrial engineer will meet in the day to day work. It will give him or her an opportunity to communicate with other engineers and specialists.

Prerequisites:
TATM 35 Analysis, TATM13 Algebra III and TMME 16 Engineering Mechanics I.

Supplementary courses:
TMHL 20 Strength of Materials II

Course content:
Definitions and basic concepts. Simple homogeneous states. Materials behaviour. Elasticity and plasticity. Statically undetermined problems. Shear. Stress concentrations. Plastic deformation. Torsion. Plane bending. Stresses and deformations in pure bending. Influence of normal force. Influence of shear force. Analysis of stress and strain, Mohr«s circle. Principal stresses.
