TMHL08 | Solid Mechanics, the Finite Element Method, ECTS-points /HÅLLFASTHETSLÄRA, finita elementmetoden/ Advancement level: C
Aim: The course aims at giving basic knowledge of the Finite Element Method (FEM) necessary for utilising it as a tool in daily engineering work. Prerequisites: TATM 61, TATM 31, TMME 02, TMHL 07Course organization: The course is given during period 4 and the theoretical part gives 3 p and the computer exercise gives 1 p. Course content: The course is an introduction to the Finite Element Method. One-dimensional second order elasticity and heat transfer problems are discussed. A one-dimensional forth order beam problem is also contained. Finally, multi-dimensional second order elasticity and heat transfer problems will be reviewed. The method is explained as an Galerkin approximation to the weak formulation of the boundary value problem at hand.Course literature: Ottosen N., Petersson H., Introduction to the Finite Element Method, Prentice Hall, 1992.
