Aim:
The aim of this course is to give a thorough understanding of basic concepts and definitions necessary for both making use of simple sizing rules useful in basic engineering work and for further studies on the subject.

Prerequisites:
TATM 61, TATM 31, TMME 02

Course organization:
The course is given during period 3 and the theoretical part gives 3 p and the laboratory work gives 1 p.

Course content:
The course gives an introduction to solid mechanics. It discusses: Basic concepts and definitions; Simple homogeneous stress states; Deflections and stresses in beams; Torque applied to circular shafts; Stability of axially loaded beams; Hookes generalised law; Multidimensional stress and deformation analysis; Yield hypothesis.
