TMHL03 Mechanics of Light Structures, ECTS-points
/HÅLLFASTHETSLÄRA, lätta konstruktioners mekanik/

Advancement level:
C

Aim:
In this course the general three dimensional field equations of elastostatics are specialised in different ways in order to obtain various simplified theories valid for special cases of loading and geometry. This serves the twofold purpose of deriving theories useful in engineering practice, such as Kirchhoff plate theory and to reach a familiarity with the general three dimensional equations.

Prerequisites:
TMHL07 Solid Mechanics, Basic Course and TMHL08 Solid Mechanics, the Finite Element Method or TMHL 10 Solid Mechanics V

Supplementary courses:
TMHL41 Continuum Mechanics, TMHL 42 FEM and Structural Optimization, TMHL43 Advanced Mechanics of Materials

Course content:
Stretching of plates. Bending of plates. Buckling of plates. FE-analysis of plates. Membrane shell theory. Bending theory of rotationally symmetric shells. Buckling of cylindrical shells.
