TFFY75 Electromagnetism, ECTS-points
/ELEKTROMAGNETISM/

Advancement level:
B

Aim:
The course gives an introduction to elektromagnetism where it is repeatedly demonstrated how electromagnetic phenomena can be understood as special applications of Maxwell's equations. Maxwell's equations are presented on integral form, i e no prior knowledge of vector analysis is necessary.

Prerequisites:
TATM03 Calculus D, TATM18 Linear Algebra I

Course content:
Electrostatics: Coulombs law, electric field strength, electric potential, Gaussélaw, capacitance, electric dipole, polarisation, dielectric materials Currents: Current density, mobility, drift velocity, resistance Magnetostatics: Magnetic flux density, Biot-Savarts law, Amperes law, magnetic dipole, magnetisation, magnetic materials, magnetic circuits Time varying electromagnetic fields: Induction, electromotive voltage, Faradays law, inductance, wave motion, transmission lines, plasma frequency, Fresnels formulas, Snells law, polarised light, energy in the electromagnetic field
