Aim:
The course should give a deepened knowledge within key fields of the condensed matter physics.

Prerequisites:
TFFY54 Quantum mechanics, part II, TFFY70 Physics of Condensed Matter, part I

Course organization:
Parts of the course are treated bu oral presentation by the students.

Course content:
A theoretical treatment of magnetism in condensed matter and a description of applications of magnetism. An extended description of the mechanisms giving the optical properties of condensed matter. A combined phenomenological and theoretical treatment of superconductivity. A treatment of surfaces and interfaces in mainly semiconductors.

TEN1A written examination including solving problems and theory questions, and active participation in the sessions with oral presentations by students.
