Aim: This course gives an introduction to the fundamentals of electromagnetics, physical and geometrical optics, solid state physics, atomic, molecular and nuclear physics.Prerequisites: TFFM50 Principles of Physics, TFFY60 Engineering mechanicsCourse organization: The course will be given as lectures, classroom exercises and laborations.Course content: ¥ Elektromagnetics: Electrostatics, magnetostatics, time-dependent electromagnetic fields ¥ Optics: Refraction, interference, diffraction, polarization, geometrical optics ¥ Atomic and molecular physics: Atomic models, The Schrödinger equation, quantum numbers, the Pauli exclusion principle, molecular orbitals, molecular bonding ¥ Nuclear physics: Models of nuclear structure, radioactivity, fission, fusion ¥ Solid state physics: Crystal structure, reciprocal space, energy band diagrams, Brillouin zones | ||
