Aim:
The aim of the course is to give knowledge on the basic components in an information system. It should also give understanding of the use of information systems in an organization. The course also discusses information management and development of information systems.

Prerequisites:
TMAL 21 Industrial engineering. TEIE 07 Basic course in industrial economics.

Course organization:
The course is given as a series of lectures and seminars. There is also a computer exercise.

Course content:
There are five major areas that are discussed in the course. 1. Basic definitions of information systems, information and decision making. 2. Technical components in an information system, such as hardware, software, tell communications and data processing. 3. Different applications of information systems. 4. Techniques of information systems development. 5. Information systems management.
