Aim:
The course provides knowledge of technologies used in the operating theatre and intensive care unit to assist and monitor body functions. It also focuses on important therapeutic devices, including aids for the handicapped. A presentation and discussion of ethical issues forms an integral part of the course as well as a problem-based project work.

Intensive care intensive care monitoring, anaesthesiology, respirators, heart-lung machines, artificial heart assist pumps fluid-, electrolyte- and drug administration criteria's of death, ethical issues in intensive care Surgery surgery techniques, plastic surgery, transplantation's Aids for the handicapped, prosthesis regulation Hearing, vision, equilibrium physiology of hearing, vision and equilibrium, hearing aids, audiology, ophthalmology, ERG, diagnostic methods Assessment of medical technology innovation and spread of technology, methods for evaluation and assessment, cost-benefit-analysis, cost-effectiveness-analysis, ethical-, social-, legal aspects Laboratory experiment: technical audiology (4h), steering of artificial limb with EMG (4h)
