NKEC63 | Physical-Organic Chemistry, ECTS-points /FYSIKALISK-ORGANISK KEMI/ Advancement level: C
Aim: The course is a continuation of Organic Chemistry 3 and have the intention to give the student a deeper knowledge in molecular structure, chemical bonding, quantum chemistry etc. This knowledge is applied in chemical reaction mechanisms and in spectroscopic methods. Prerequisites: Courses corresponding to passed NKEA14-15 General Chemistry 1-2, Organic Chemistry 1 (NKEA16) and Biochemistry 1 (NKEA17) and attended Physical Chemistry 2, NKEC53 Organic Chemistry 3, respectively. Supplementary courses: NKED73 Organic Synthesis Course organization: The theory is taught in lectures, seminaries, lessons and laboratory work. Course content: Detailed survey on some central organic reaction mechanisms, giving knowledge on the effect of structure and reaction media on reactivity. Methods to study chemical reaction mechanisms. Symmetry-controlled reactions and stereo chemistry. The Hammett-equation. Two-dimensional NMR-methods. Course literature: Maskill H.: Mechanisms of Organic Reactions. Duddeck H., Dietrich W.: Structure Elucidation by Modern NMR.
