NKEC62 | Chemical Bonding, ECTS-points /KEMISK BINDNING/ Advancement level: C
Aim: The course is a continuation of Physical Chemistry 2 and Organic Chemistry 3 and is intended to give the student a deeper knowledge in molecular structure, chemical bonding, quantum chemistry etc. This knowledge is applied in chemical reaction mechanisms and in spectroscopic methods. Prerequisites: NKEB33 Physical Chemistry 2 . Course organization: Lectures, lessons, laboratory work and computer exercises. Course content: Orientation on computational methods in quantum chemistry with emphasis on organic molecules. Symmetry and point groups. Aromaticity and the HŸckel-method. Applications in organic reactions. Molecular mechanics and modelling. Advanced molecular spectroscopy with applications from research at the chemistry department. Course literature: Murrell, J.N., Kettle, S.F.A. and Tedder, J.M., The Chemical Bond (2nd ed.), John Wiley & Sons.
