NKEA16 | Organic Chemistry, ECTS-points /ORGANISK KEMI 1/ Advancement level: A
Aim: To cover the following areas: Chemical nomenclature. The different functionalities in organic chemistry. Basic reaction mechanisms. Organic laboratory techniques. Prerequisites: Courses corresponding to attended General Chemistry 1-2 (NKEA14 and 15). Course organization: Theoretical aspects are daily presented in lectures. Problem solving and molecular models are studied during lectures. In the laboratory the students are trained in elementary organic chemical laboratory techniques in relation to the theoretical part of the course. Course content: Nomenclature, structure, and physical properties of the most common substances representing different functional groups. Basic reaction mechanisms. In the laboratory, basic synthetic procedures are performed, in relation to basic reactions and principles of purification (crystallisation, distillation and extraction). Course literature: Oskar Nylander, Biokemi med organisk kemi, Studentlitteratur, Lund. Compendium and laboratory manuals.
