To cover the following fundamental fields of chemistry: Basic notions and definitions. Writing chemical equations and stoichometry. Electronic structure of atoms and periodicity of the elements. Chemical bonding. Quantitative analysis. Inorganic chemistry. General laboratory techniques.

Course organization:
Theoretical aspects are daily presented in lectures. Problem solving is trained in lessons. Laboratory work illustrates the practical aspects of chemistry.

Course content:
Different aspects on the properties of matter. Chemistry and measurement. Atoms, molecules and ions. Chemical formulas and chemical equations. Different kinds of chemical reactions. Stoichiometry. The gaseous state. Thermochemistry. Quantum theory of the atom. Electron configuration and periodicity. Ionic and covalent bonding. Molecular geometry and chemical bonding theory. Descriptive inorganic chemistry. Inorganic nomenclature. In the laboratory elementary procedures are trained during the performance of synthetic or analytical work etc.
