NFYD82 Analytic Methods in Biophysics, 5 ECTS-points
/BIOFYSIKALISKA ANALYSMETODER/

Advancement level:
D

Aim:
The purpose of the course is to supply knowledge about analytical methods within cell biology and biochemistry. The methods concern different microscopical techniques for studies of morphology and function of eucaryotic cells, analysis of the distribution of proteins that are labelled with fluorescent probes and other immunological methods. The principles for antigen-antibody reactions are crucial just as practical laboratory work with preparation of biological materail for qualitative and quantitative studies. Of high importance is also the ability to discuss otimazation of a method and sources of error when using various instruments.

Prerequisites:
Participation in NKEA23

Course organization:
The course includes introductory lectures and various laboratory operations. During the course time is set for self-studies and to search out litterature with aid from computers.

Course content:
The structure and function of the eucaryotic cell, basic immumology, the inflammatory process. Cell culture work with applications within light-, electron- and confocal microscopy. Immunodetection of phosphorylated proteins with blotting techniques and enzymatic detection of immune-complexes. Measuring of free radicals after stimulation of granulocytes. All methods include several laboratory preparatory procedures and subsequent evaluations.

Course literature:
Compendium and references at the department, articles and books within the different areas are available at the medical library,Hälsouniversitetets bibliotek (HUB).

TEN1Written labreports, seminars and own posters 5p.
Course language is Swedish.
