NFYC76 Chemical Surface Physics, 5 ECTS-points
/KEMISK YTFYSIK/

Advancement level:
C

Aim:
The course aims at giving basic knowledge within the area of surface physics and chemistry of solid surfaces, including chemical reaction kinetics and heterogeneous catalysis.

Prerequisites:
Participation in Molecular physics, Thermodynamics, Quantum mechanics and Solid state physics within the "Physics programme".

Course organization:
The course is given as lectures and laboratory exercises. The course is given in English if required.

Course content:
Clean surfaces: thermodynamics, crystal structure, electron structure, experimental methods of characterization. Adsorption: physisorption chemisorption thermodynamics, adsorption isotherms, experimental methods of characterization. Reaction kinetics: surface reactions, Rideal-Eley and Langmuir-Hinshelwood reactions, basic heterogeneous catalysis, experimental methods of characterization.
