Aim/vision A Master of Science in Intelligent Transport Systems from Linköping University works with the design, planning, analysis and management of transport systems. A graduate from this programme will have well-funded theoretical and practical knowledge and excellent technical and managerial skills related to the field of intelligent transport systems, and will be able to apply a multidisciplinary system approach to the development of these complex systems. The programme is aimed at students with a Bachelor's degree who would like to extend their knowledge in transportation system engineering. Graduates are suitable for employment as a traffic engineer or traffic planner in a local government, authority or consultancy firm, or for a career in a company developing products or services directed towards the transportation sector.
Programme goals
Content of the Programme The Master's Programme in Intelligent Transport Systems is focused on the design, planning, analysis and management of transport systems and is focused on systems for road transports and for transport of people. The programme includes general engineering skills in optimization, geographical information systems and telecommunication. The specialisation includes mobile and wireless telecommunication and mathematical modelling of traffic systems using optimization and simulation techniques. The students can also specialize in traffic safety management. The programme embraces two years full time studies (120 ECTS credits). The first semester is used for compulsory, introductory courses. Semester two and three include specialisation and possibilities for diversification depending on the interest of the student. The programme ends with a master thesis in semester four.
Master Thesis Major subject is Transportation Systems Engineering. The thesis should include high quality scientific research within the research area of the profile chosen by the student. Without special permission a thesis work may be performed in the following subject areas:
PhD courses in the programme Certain PhD courses can be taken by master students. These course selections are subject to formal decision by the executive committee of the Board of STudies.
