Entrance Requirements and Degrees
- Minimum formal requirements for admission include earlier studies from an internationally recognised university, a BSc degree or studies up to a level corresponding to three years of study at a Swedish university/institute of technology. In China only studies at a National Key Institution or at a university which is authorised to award up to doctorate degrees qualify for eligibility.
NB: Only holders of a Bachelor of Science and Engineering or equivalent can achieve a Master of Science and Engineering. Holders of a Bachelor of Science achieve a Master of Science.
- In addition to the general requirements, the applicant must also meet the special requirements that apply to the different programmes:
- Advanced Computer Graphics (30 places):
Applicants are expected to have graduated as a Bachelor of Science with a major in a scienctific subject with some mathematical content. Suitable subjects include Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Chemistry and Physics and other subjects may also qualify. The degree coursework must have included experience in a common numerical computer programming language. Also the equivalent of at least 20 Swedish points in mathematics.
Degree: Master of Science in Computer Science or Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering (translation of the Swedish magisterexamen).
- Applied Biology (30 places):
A major in Biology, including an advanced course in Ecology and a course in Faunistics & Floristics, 5 ECTS credits. For more information, see the programme details.
Degree: The programme entitles the student to a "Filosofie magisterexamen i Biologi". This translates to a Master of Science degree in Biology, with a profile in Applied Biology.
- Communication and Interactivity (30 places):
Applicants are expected to hold a Bachelor's degree/equivalent in computer science, computer science and engineering, or information technology.
Degree: Master of Science in Computer Science or Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering (translation of the Swedish magisterexamen).
- Manufacturing Management (30 places):
Applicants are expected to have an engineering major, such as industrical engineering and management or mechanical engineering. Also the equivalent of at least 20 Swedish points in mathematics (calculus, algebra and probability theory) and basic courses in microeconomics and production/operations management.
Degree: Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management (translation of the Swedish magisterexamen).
- Materials Physics and Nanotechnology (30 places):
Applicants are expcted to have taken basic courses equivalent of at least 20 Swedish points in mathematics (calculus, algebra, vector calculus, complex functions) and physics (mechanics, thermal and statistical physics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics).
Degree: Master of Science in Physics or Master of Science in Engineering Physics (translation of the Swedish magisterexamen).
- Molecular Electronics and System Design (30 places):
Applicants are expected to have graduated as Bachelor of Science in electrical or physical engineering or with a major in electronics or physics. Also the equivalent of at least 20 Swedish points in mathematics.
Degree: Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (translation of the Swedish magisterexamen).
- Socware - Integrated Systems for Communication and Media (30 places):
The applicants are expected to have a major in electrical engineering or computer science. Also the equivalent of at least 20 Swedish points in mathematics.
Degree: Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (translation of the Swedish magisterexamen).
- If English is not the mother tongue, the applicant must also be able to prove proficiency in English. This may be done by submitting test results from an international proficiency test:
- TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) minimum 550/213

Master Thesis
The master thesis is a synthesis of the knowledge and ability of the student to do an own assignment. Training to plan, carry out and present an independent work as well as establish contact with research and developmental work. For the extent of and prerequisities for the thesis see the programme plan.
The subject is chosen together with the supervisor and shall be within the field of the corresponding attended courses. The work may include collaboration with other Master Thesis projects although each project is clearly defined and carried out independently with support of individual tutorage. The assignment is done by the student and overlooked and guided by the supervisor and in close contact to the research and/or developing-frontier of the subject. The project includes an introductory planning and a presentation of how to carry out the work. Finally the student will present a written report as well as defend the work by an oral presentation.
