TSDT74 | Radio Communication, 4 p (sw) /Radiokommunikation/ Advancement level: D | |
Aim: The course provides basic knowledge about problems and methods for construction of radio communication systems. The main emphasis is on digital radio systems. In particular it is illustrated how different forms of signal processing are used for the construction of efficient radio communication systems. Prerequisites: TSIT 64 Signalteori, TSDT 09 Datatransmission alt TSDT 76 Digital kommunikationCourse content: Basics about radio communication systems: utilization of the frequency spectrum, different radio systems. Systemsoriented antenna and wave propagation theory: propagation in freespace, in the troposhere, in the ionoshere, basic antenna theory, link budget. Probabilistic channel models: fading channels, time and frequencey dispersive channels, digital channel models. Modulation methods for the radio channel: bit error analysis in fading channels, spectral properties, spectral efficient modulation. Diversity methods: principles, weighting, performance. Coding for radio channels: methods for burst error correction, coding gain. Spread spectrum techniques: frequency hopping, direct sequence systems. Multiple user systems: space- time-, frequency and code multiplex, dynamic channel allocation, packet switching. Practical examples: mobile radio, high frequency transmission, satellite communication.
