TNMK10 | Optics and Acoustics, 4 p (sw) /Optik och akustik/ Advancement level: B | |
Aim: The aim of the course is to give the student competence with the fundamental concepts of wave motion as appear in the areas of optics and acoustics.Prerequisites: TNIU70 Single variable calculus, TNIU75 Linear algebra. It is advantageous that the student has studied, or is studying in parallel, a course in multivariable calculus and/or vector analysis.Supplementary courses: The course is based on lectures, tutorials and laboratory work.Course content: Fundamental theory of light and sound as physical phenomena. Sound waves in structures: room acoustics, echoes, waveguides. Technical aspects of sound: principles and applications of microphones and speakers. Synthetic sound. Measuring methods. Optics of generation and reproduction of images: camera optics, projector optics. Light as a means of communication: modulation, fiber optics, optical sensors. Methods of measurement.Course literature: A compendium and laboratory material produced by the department. |
