| Aim: This course aims at giving the students a basic knowledge of the problems, questions and possibilities arising in wood manufacturing industry dealing with furniture, window frames, doors, cabinets, etc. Prerequisites: The two basic years at the Institute of Techology.Supplementary courses: The courses TMTR 20 - 23Course content: Wood Technology I is aimed at giving basic knowledge of the Swedish wood manufacturing industry. The course starts by "the planting of seeds" in the forest and ends with selling furniture in the EC market. In between, the course deals with plant physiology, wood chemistry, solid mechanics for wood etc. Wood machining, such as sawing, cutting, planing etc. as well as environmental problems, health hazards and transport issues are other topics of concern. Organisation: The course consists of lectures, lessons and laboratory work from different areas ofthe subject. One visit to a wood manufacturing company is compulsory.
