TMKM90 | Engineering Materials - deformation and fracture, 4 p (sw) /Konstruktionsmaterial - deformation och brott/ Advancement level: D | |
Aim: The course gives a deeper knowledge about creep deformation, fracture mechanics and fracture mechanisms in metallic materials. The emphasis is on the application of materials, i.e. the properties when they are exposed to cracking, fatigue, loads at high temperature and other kinds of life limiting conditions. The knowledge is used in a section about failure analysis.Prerequisites: Engineering Materials Metals, TMKM04Course organization: The teaching consists of lectures, tutorials and laboratory work.Course content: Crystallographic texture after deformation and orientation effects. Creep mechanisms and creep fracture. Ductile fracture, brittle fracture, fatigue fracture and environment assisted fracture. The basis of fracture mechanics and the effect of microstructure on fracture toughness. The method of failure analysis.Course literature: Herzberg: "Deformation and Fracture Mechanics of Engineering Materials", Lab. instructions. |
