TMKM88 | Engineering Materials I, 3 p (sw) /Konstruktionsmaterial / Advancement level: B | |
Aim: The aim of the course is to present basic knowledge about engineering materials based on the principle of the relationship between structure and properties of materials and how that can be applied on engineering materials to understand their properties and their basic use. This knowledge should also be applied in communicating and solving industrial problems. The aim is also to integrate between various mechanical engineering subjects like design, production, materials and strength of materials.Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in science and basic undergraduate courses in physics and solid mechanics.Course organization: A lecture course, with classes, practical work and a project.Course content: Atomic structure, arrangement and movement. Controlling the microstructure and mechanical properties of materials Engineering materials. Protection against deterioration and failure of materialsCourse literature: Askeland, D.R., The Science and Engineering of Materials. Printed material and instructions for practical work. |
