TMKM08 | Experimental Evaluation of fatigue and fracture Properties, 5 p (sw) /Materialtekniska provningsmetoder/ Advancement level: D | |
Aim: To give theoretical and practical knowledge of important testing methods characterising the structure and properties of materials and of non-destructive test methods to reveal cracks or other defects (NDT). They are methods of great industrial use, the importance of which are increasing in several cases. This is particularly true for the NDT. The methods are in most cases applicable to all classes of materials.Prerequisites: TMKM04 Engineering Materials Metals, TMKM98 Engineering Materials - Design, TMHL07 Solid Mechanics basic course, TFFY68 Introductory Physics.Course organization: The teaching consists of lectures, tutorials and laboratory work.Course content: The following testing methods will be treated with an introductory lecture and subsequent laboratory work. In the laboratory work, the students will first hand in a proposal on how to carry out the work which will be reviewed by the supervisor before work starts. The aim with the laboratory work is that the student shall prove his ability to work independently. A report is to be written and reviewed. If possible, the different laboratory work should deal with the same engineering component. Possible testing methods will include: - Light microscopy (OM) - Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive analysis (EDS) - Computerised image analysis - Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) - Fatigue testing - X-ray diffraction (XRD) - Computerised X-ray tomography (CT) - Ultrasonic testing (US)Course literature: Text books, copies of articles. |
