TFYY38 | Bioanalytical Methods and the electronic nose, 3 p (sw) /Bioanalytiska metoder och elektroniska näsor/ Advancement level: C
Aim: The course is aimed at giving basic knowledge concerning the biotechnical and bioanalytical methods of interest within e.g. process and pharmaceutical industries. The course will give an orientation of basic biochemical pathways as well as the hybride DNA technology. The environmental aspect of DNA technology will also be tuched upon. A special care is devoted to multivariate data analysis and the concept of the electronic nose.Course organization: The course is given as 12 lectures, each 2 hours, and 2 laboratory parts, each 4 hours.Course content: The course starts with a general overview of biochemistry that contains parts as properties of the proteins, enzymes and enzyme kinetics, cell regulation and sugar metabolism of the cell and DNA replication. Furthermore, various bioanalytical methods are described such as high pressure liquid chromatography, immunology, biosensors as well as common chemical and physical sensors. The environmental aspect of DNA technology will also be tuched upon.A special care is devoted to multivariate data analysis such as principal component analysis, projection to latent structure and artificial neural nets. The concept of the electronic nose and electronic tongue will also be studied. In the laboratory part a fermentaion is followed by means of an electronic nose, tongue and some other bioanalytical instruments. The data obtained will be used for multivariate data analysis.Course literature: Bioanalytiska metoder och electroniska näsorAssessment:
