TFYY37 Molecular Physics with Electronic Applications, 5 p (sw)
/Molekylfysik med elektroniska tillämpningar/

Advancement level:
D

Aim:
This course is designed to give understanding of the electronic structure of diatomic, polyatomic and polymeric molecules and to bring insight into electronic and optical phenomena in molecular materials, as a background to molecular electronics, including conjugated and conducting polymers and bioelectronics.

Prerequisites:
TFFY17 Modern Physics, TFFY54 Quantum Mechanics II

Supplementary courses:
TFFY42 Polymer Physics

Course organization:
Seminars and laboratory demonstrations illustrate the central themes of the course. Written and oral presentation of ill posed problems (and their solutions).

Course content:
Basic quantum chemical and quantum physical properties of atoms to be used to obtain an understanding of the geometrical and electronic structure of molecules, macromolecules and polymers. Structure formation in soft condensed matter. Selforganisation. Molecular electronics. Electronic transport (charge, energy) in organic materials. Polymer electronics. Molecular optics, spectral hole burning. Bioelectronics: nerve conduction and receptor phenomena. The physics of photosynthesis.

Course literature:
Scientific journal papers and other support material will be handed out during the course.

Course language is english or swedish.
