TFFY75 | Electromagnetism, 3 p (sw) /Elektromagnetism/ Advancement level: B | |
Aim: The course shall give a basic knowledge of electromagnetics needed in engineering electromagnetics, and to develop skills necessary to solve simple electromagnetic problems. Prerequisites: TATM72 Calculus, TATM18 Linear Algebra and TFYY06 Engineering Mechanics D, or equivalent courses. Course organization: 28 h lectures, 18 h problem solving sessions, and 6 h laboratory lessons. Course content: 1. Electrostatics: Coulomb's law, electric field strength, electric potential, Gauss' law, capacitance, electric dipole, polarisation, dielectric materials. 2. Currents: current density, mobility, drift velocity, resistance. 3. Magnetostatics: magnetic flux density, Biot-Savart's law, Ampere's law, magnetic dipole, magnetisation, magnetic materials. 4. Time-varying electromagnetic fields: induction, electromotive voltage, Faraday's law, inductance, wave motion, transmission lines, plasma frequency. 5. Introduction to some applications, in particular chip technology. 6. Computer simulations; The course repeatedly demonstrates how electromagnetic phenomena can be understood as specific applications of Maxwell's equations. Course literature: Elektromagnetism, L. A. Engström; Exercise compendium; Laboratory compendium. |
