TFFY43 | Analytical Mechanics, 3 p (sw) /Analytisk mekanik/ Advancement level: C | |
Aim: The course presents the basic principles of classical mechanics within the framework of the variational approach. The knowledge of these principles is necessary for a deeper penetration into the structure of the classical mechanics itself, and for a proper understanding of subsequent courses such as thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics etc. Furthermore, the methods of the analytical mechanics can serve as a set of the efficient tools for the solution of the majority of hard problems of mechanics and related topics. Prerequisites: TFFY17 Modern Physics Y, TMME 23 Engimeering Mechanics YSupplementary courses: TFFY54 Quantum MechanicsCourse organization: The course contains seminars and solution of problems in connection with the seminars.Course content: The variational approach to mechanics, Hamilton's principle, Lagrange's equations, first integrals and conservation theorems, elimination of cyclic variables, Jacobi's principle, small oscillations, central force problem, canonical transformations and Hamilton-Jacobi theory, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations for continuous systems. Course literature: Goldstein, H.: Classical Mechanics (selected parts) Addison & Wesley, 1980. |
