TFFY24 | Physics, 4,5 p (sw) /Fysik/ Advancement level: B | |
Aim: The course is intended to give a good knowledge about basic theory of wave physics and thermodynamics as well as their applications. The course also illustrates the essential interaction between theory and experiment in physics. It also gives some training in the use of physical measurement equipment and in analysis of errors. Course organization: The lectures cover the essential theoretical parts, and they are intended to give a basic understanding of the subject. The classroom exercises give training in problem solving and application of the subject. Course content: 1.Wave physics: Harmonic oscillations, basic wave concepts, harmonic waves, wave speeds, standing waves, acoustics concepts, Doppler effect, electromagnetic waves, polarization, reflection and refraction, interference and diffraction 2 Thermodynamics: The temperature concept, mechanical work and heat exchange, specific heat, heat transport, the kinetic theory of gases, thermodynamic processes, entropy, heat engines and heat pumps, the laws of thermodynamics. 3. Basic measurement technology. Course literature: Halliday, Resnick, Walker: Fundamentals of Physics (Extended), John Wiley & sons Kompendium in "Experimentell problemlösning och mätteknik." |
