Aim: The course shall give practical and theoretical understanding of corporate organization, regarding leadership, administration and manufacturing organization. It will also develop an understanding of research methods used in studies of organizations. The students shall also develop the ability to write and present a report.Prerequisites: TEIE 08 Basic Course in Industrial Economics.Supplementary courses: TEIO 38 Företagets processer och struktur TEIO 39 Leadership and Organizational Change TEIO 50 Industrial Project ManagementCourse organization: The course follows the principles of problem based learning, whereby the student is expected to take responsibility of his/her own learning. A series of lectures presents the theoretical foundations together with different practical perspectives. The theory is further developed in seminars. The seminars are based on the students' own active participation in discussions regarding theory or different case studies. The students are also expected to present different parts of the literature in seminars. Based on a company visit the students have to write a report, which will be presented and commented, at the last seminar.Course content: Organization theory: The development of organization theory, division of labour, theory of administration, theory of bureaucracy, scientific management, human relations movement, decision theory, contingency theory. Organizational effectiveness. Organizational structure, dimensions of structure, impact on organization by environment, size, age, strategy and technology. Power and politics. Mintzberg's configurations are presented as an integrative approach. Organizational processes, leadership theory, strategic processes and organizational change. Research methods.
