Aim: The course presents key aspects of organization theory from the perspective of industrial manufacturing: organizational structure, organizational behaviour, and organizational change. Research methods used in studies of organizations are discussed at course seminars. The students are expected to develop their ability to write and present a report.Prerequisites: TMPT 63 Computerized Manufacturing Equipment TDEI 05 Industrial Economics and Management TPPE 07 Productions and Operations ManagementSupplementary courses: TEIO 38 Structuring of Organizations TEIO 39 Leadership and Organizational Change TEIO 50 Industrial Project ManagementCourse organization: Each student is expected to take responsibility for his/her own learning. A series of lectures presents the theoretical foundations together with different practical perspectives. The theory is further developed in seminars. The seminars are based on the students' own active participation in discussions and in manufacturing & management games. Based on a company visit the students are to write a report, which will be presented and commented at the last seminar.Course content: Organization theory: The development of organization theory, division of labour, scientific management, human relations and contingency theory. Organization structure, organizational efficiency, communications and group dynamics. Modern principles of production organization and product development. Projects and temporary organizations.
