Aim: The purpose of the course is to give an introduction to economic theory, to present some of the basic analytical tools necessary for economic analysis and to give some insight into how an economy functions and into some of the policy issues that are currently the subject of debate.Course organization: Lectures and exercises. Course content: Microeconomic theory and welfare theory. In this part we will study the meaning of scarce resources and how these resources are allocated by one type of institution, markets, competitive or imperfekt competitive. What is the meaning of an efficient use of resources and why do markets sometimes fail? Macroeconomic theory. In this part the level of aggregate production and the use of resources on a national level is central. Important factors are the total output, Gross Domestic Product, and the growth rate. The use of labour is linked to the production and employment, or umemployment, is another macroeconomic variable. The price level and its change, the inflation rate, as well as the transactions with other countries, the balance of payments, are important factors. Macroeconomic theory tries to explain what determines these four key factors.Course literature: Eklund, K: Vår ekonomi - senaste upplagan Axelsson R gm fl: Mikroekonomi - Studentlitteratur 1998 Articles |
