Aim: Regardless of political system or level of development, every nation faces the same problem of resource allocation. The problem is that the needs for consumption exceed the possible production. In other words, resources are scarce. With limited resources, there must be a choice of how they are to be used. In some kind of process there must therefore be decided what utilities (goods, services etc) that should be produced, how the utilities should be produced and for whom. The aim of the course is to give an introduction to economic theory, partly with focus on the communication sector. The aim is also to give some insight into how the resource allocation process works in a market economy and into the meaning of market imperfections and why government sometimes have to provide goods and services. Prerequisites: -Course organization: -Course content: Supply and demand analysis, equilibrium quantity and price, consumer behavior, the importance of information, producer behavior, different forms of markets, optimal resource allocation, efficiency in consumption, efficiency in production, externalities, public goods.
