Aim: The aim of the course is to give an overview how modern computers work and are built. A historical perspective is given and methods are discussed which have been develped in order to improve the performance of current microprocessors and parallel computers.Prerequisites: TSIU 30 Computer Hardware and Architecture (or equivalent courses).Course organization: The course is given as a series of lectures. Course content: Historical perspective, CPU, memory hierarchy, cache memory, virtual memory,instruction pipelining, Reduced Instruction Set (RISC) processors, Very Large Instruction Word (VLIW) processors, study of parallelism for performance enhancement, superscalar and parallel computer systems.
