| Aim: The course is intended to teach students to understand and use basic probability and statistics.Course organization: Lectures and problem classes. Theory is followed up by problem-solving by the lecturer. Course content: Matematical statistics: event space, events and probabilities. Combinatorics. Conditional probability and independent events. Stochastic variables and their probability distributions: exponential, normal, binomial, och Poisson distributions. Expectation value and standard deviation. Central limit theorem. Descriptive statistics. Point estimation of Expectation value and standard deviation. Confidence interval. Hypothesis testing. Chi-squared test. Simple linear regression.
