Aim: Students shall, by learning and practising basic mathematical skills, attain a level of general mathematical competence which will be a sound basis for further mathematical studies. Course organization: The course is taught in class groups, with some lectures.Course content: Calculations with algebraic expressions, inequalities, absolute values and complex numbers. Equation solving. Functions and their graphs. Definition of the elementary functions: the natural logarithm, the exponential and power functions, trigonometric functions, the complex exponential function. Investigation of the properties of the elementary functions. Euler's formulas. Basic principles of logical arguments and proofs. Examples of direct proof, counterexample, existence proof, uniqueness proof, proof by induction. Vectors in the plane, coordinate systems in the plane, polar coordinates, equations of the straight line and the circle.
