NFYC73 | Analytical Mechanics, 5 p (sw) /ANALYTISK MEKANIK/ Advancement level: C | |
Aim: The course describes advanced methods for treating problems in mechanics. Analytical mechanics makes the structure of classical mechanics transparent and is fundamental for a deeper understanding of quantum mechanics.Prerequisites: Participation in NFYA31 Mechanics, NFYB43 Atomic and Nuclear Physics, NFYC51 Mathematical methods of Physics, part I.Supplementary courses: NFYD65 Quantum Dynamics and NFYD73 Theory of Relativity.Course organization: The course is given in the form of tutorials.Course content: The variational principles of mechanics, Lagranges equations, Hamilton's principle and the equations of motion, theory of small oscillations, the analytical treatment of central force problems, canonical transformations and Hamilton-Jacobi theory, Poisson brackets. Action angle variables, canonical perturbation theory. Continues systems. Lagrange densities.Course literature: Goldstein, H.: Classical Mechanics, Addison & Wesley. |
