NBIA01 | Cell Biology, 5 p (sw) /Cellbiologi/ Advancement level: A | |
Aim: The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge about the structure and function of the cell. Another important aim is to increase the skills within basic, biological methodology.Prerequisites: General Chemistry 1, 2 and 3 (NKEA 11, 12 and 13 or NKEA 14, 15, 16 and 17).Course organization: The course includes lectures which give a summary of the subject and in certain degrees completes and/or explains the course literature. A great part of the course exists of laboratory work which exemplifies the theory and which result is presented and discussed at seminars. The course includes, furthermore, team work of practical and/or theoretical character, which is to be presented in writing and orally. Course content: Cell biology treats eukaryotic cells basic structure and function, among others are cell membranes studied as well as organelles, cytoskeleton and cell movements, cellular communication and extracellular matrix. The course gives also an introduction into biological laboratory work, where you learn how to handle biological material and apply established methods and instruments, amongst others light microscope. Course literature: Alberts B et al. 1998. Essential Cell Biology. Garland Publishing Inc or equivalent. Compendium. |
