Mål: It is necessary to know the present situation - whether it is environmental problems or safety problems caused by traffic. We have to have this knowledge to know what effects our countermeasures have had. In order to do this we use statistical methods. Kursinnehåll: 1. Traffic statistics: How to collect data in order to describe the road network, the vehicle population, the driver population, traffic volumes, travel and trip patterns, speed distributions etc. 2. Environmental statistics: How to collect data in order to describe the existence and development of traffic noise, traffic pollution by air and water of carbon dioxides, particles, hydrocarbons, nitrous oxides etc in various traffic situations. 3. Accident and injury statistics: How to collect data in order to describe the existence and development of accidents, injuries, and fatalities for various traffic, road, road user, vehicle conditions. 4. Risk analysis: How to make an adequate risk analysis for various traffic, road, road user, and vehicle conditions considering the lack of accurate accident injury and especially exposure data. 5. Evaluation of countermeasures: There are many pitfalls in the evaluation methodology. Testing of statistical significance may sound simple. But there are many pitfalls in them and some of these pitfalls are described and analysed - regression to the mean, accident migration, behavioural adaptation to perceived risks etc. 6. Traffic modelling and simulation: In order to make traffic related data more general and in order to be able to predict outcome of various countermeasures it is often necessary to describe the data in terms of a model.
