Aim:
The course gives a broad overview of the use of technology in use and preparation of printed and electronicallly published documents.

Prerequisites:
TSEA 20 Computer Hardware and Architecture, TSEA 19 or TSEA 10. Basic knowledge in programming.

Course organization:
The course will be given as lectures accompanied by laboratory work.

Course content:
The history of Graphic Arts and application areas. Colour Science: human colour vision, colour models and standards. Colour image capture. The sampling theorem. Colour gamut, grey balance, colour correction and gamut compression. Image enhancement and restoration. Halftoning. Printing methods, the Printing process: interaction between paper and ink, optical and physical dot gain. Document structure and page description languages. Electronic publishing. Interactive media.

A package of printed material. References will be given at the start of the course.
