TPPE47 | Integrated Manufacturing Management, 9 ECTS-points /Integrerad produktionsstyrning/ Advancement level: D
Aim: The aim of the course is to further develop and apply principles and techniques from previous courses in production and operations management. The course focuses on the relationships between manufacturing strategy, process, planning and control systems and performance measures. After taking this course, the student should have deeper knowledge about manufacturing management from strategic to operative levels in theory as well as in practice.Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in production and operations management (TPPE 07), manufacturing planning and control (TPPE 40) and manufacturing strategy (TPPE 50).Course organization: The teaching is organized in lectures, seminars and computer labs. The lectures are devoted to cases and industrial applications. The seminars are used for group assignents and small projects carried out in groups of approximately four persons as well as industrial visits. Computer labs are used through-out the course, e. g. for simulations.Course content: MANUFACTURING RE-ENGINEERING: Setup time reduction, lead time reduction, flow orientation another ways of changing, simplifying and improving manufacturing operations. SIMULATION OF MANUFACTURING PROCESSES AND PLANNING: Analysis and simulation of planning and control systems as well as manufacturing processes. Simulation modelling. Design of simulation experiments. The relationship between control parameters such as lot sizes, lead times, safety mechanisms, capacity and planning philosophies. INTEGRATED DESIGN OF MANUFACTURING STRATEGY, PROCESS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS: A project work related to real industrial case. Analysis of the manufacturing environment in terms of e.g. markets, products, volumes and product mix. Design of a manufacturing strategy, process layouts and planning and control systems and other aspects related to the planning of an industrial facility.Course literature: Law and Kelton, Simulation Modelling and Analysis, McGraw-Hill, 1991 Compendium
