Aim:
To give the students basic knowledge about the principles and methods in 3D Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality.

Prerequisites:
TNM005 Computer Graphics

Course organization:
Lectures, lab exercises and an animation project.

Course content:
Application areas for 3D Computer Graphics. Object representations and primitives in 3D. Rendering methods: polygon rendering with z-buffering,scanline rendering,raytracing,radiosity,hybrid methods. Sampling and antialiasing. Illumination models. Interpolated shading: Gouraud, Phong. Texture mapping. Standards and languages for 3D graphics. Animation: keyframing,physical models,motion capture. 3D graphics and animation for visualization of complex systems of scientific data. Virtual Reality: model description,complexity versus realism,interaction with the environment and other users,bandwidth versus distribution of the database, user interfaces,sense of presence and feedback - visual,aural and tactile.
